Rhino poacher-hunting dog gets hero medal in South Africa

Rhino poacher-hunting dog awarded with a hero medal for his dedication and hard work in helping save South Africa’s endangered rhinos.

This incredible K9 that goes by the name of “Killer” (the Rhino poacher-hunting dog) has got remarkable tracking skills and has led to the arrest of 115 poachers in the Kruger National Park, South Africa.

Killer is a 5 year old Belgian Malinois that has been in the anti-poaching program for the past 4 Years. This rhino poacher-hunting dog and his handler, Amos Mzimba, are flown by helicopter in order to track down and apprehend armed poachers. While flying around they also try to discover any dead rhino in the area.

“It is an honor to have Killer by my side. It means a lot that he has been recognized for his skills,” said Mr Mzimba who added that he is very thankful for Killer that saved him once while poachers was shooting at him.

The PDSA gold-medal winner was announced by British comedian Ricky Gervais, who praised K9 Killer and the Kruger National Park’s Special Operations Team.

“He helped capture dozens of poachers in the last year alone, thanks to his amazing courage and dedication,” Mr Gervais said in this video below that was posted on YouTube.
